Inorganic soil stabiliser and pavement material Road Building International (RBI) Grade- 81 is expected to be used in repairs and construction of more roads in the State.

According to sources, RBI Grade 81 is already being used in construction of dozens of roads across and State and is likely to be used more considering the advantages of using it. According to the sole authorised distributor of RBI Grade-81 in Uttarakhand, Sanjay Panwar, this soil stabiliser and pavement material is being used in 22 Indian States and 150 countries across the world. Being a non-toxic, cost effective and durable material, it also reduces the requirement of aggregates like gravel and sand.

“Its use reduces the cost of road construction and time taken by about 20 to 30 per cent. Its longer durability reduces maintenance, leaching, use of bitumen and energy consumption while saving material like aggregates, good soil and bitumen. At present in Uttarakhand, RBI Grade-81 is being used in construction of about 12 world bank funded roads, 12 roads under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) and four under the Public Works Department.

It was also used for patching up the damaged portions of the national highway to Badrinath ahead of Hanumanchatti to enable smooth flow of traffic to the shrine. The Minister of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Prakash Javadekar will be present at a meet being held in Delhi on Friday regarding the use of RBI Grade-81 in road construction in India,” he said.
