The Directorate of Information and Publicity, Government of Uttarakhand has expanded its wings in the Kumaon Division, but it has not conducted that kind of exercise for the Garhwal division.
In its expansion drive, the Directorate of Information and Publicity, the Government of Uttarakhand, has recently deployed Assistant Director (Information) Yogesh Mishra, at the media centre, Haldwani. Now with Mishra’s transfer to the media centre, Haldwani from its Head Quarter in Dehradun, there are three officials in their capacities as Assistant Director, District Information Officer (DIO) and Additional District Information Officer (ADIO) to look after Government’s publicity affairs in Nainital.
However, Mishra maintained that his job is not only to look after the Nainital district but also to coordinate with all the information and publicity departments spread across the Kumaon Division and to give maximum exposure to the Government’s popular policies so that people could make the most of these schemes, while talking to The Pioneer.
“Besides, my job is also to cover the visits of ministers and other senior officials to the Kumaon region,” he added. It is to note that there are three media centres presently working in the State– one each at the secretariat and the State legislative Assembly in Dehradun and one is at Haldwani. But the media centre at Haldwani that came into existence in previous BJP government, is still functioning from a rented accommodation for about a couple of years.
However, the State Government has strengthened its publicity networks in Dehradun and to some extent in Kumaon Division, it doesn’t have any such programme for the Garhwal Division which also needs attention in the aftermath of the natural calamity that that inflicted irreparable damage.
