Instances of sudden infants’ death syndrome increase in recent past due to rise in number of cases of women addicted to smoking that has resulted into spread of sudden infants death syndrome which commonly strikes females. The best way to keep the syndrome at a bay is giving up smoking.

Concerned over rise in cases of the syndrome, Clinical psychologist Dr (Maj) Nandkishore advised people to give up smoking and avoid giving absurd logics to continue the smoking. “Females, who enjoy puffing on cigarette, should know the fact that smoking may give birth to the syndrome and other health complications in them. If any women develop the syndrome, the infant dies soon after the birth.”

He said that in some cases that the infant dies in the womb that may prove fatal for the women’s life. “It is very unfortunate that several women smoke cigarettes and take other hard drink just to show off. Gradually, they became addicted to the smoking that results into several health complications,” Nandkishore said.

The doctor, who gives prescription to around 500 patients every month, said that number of females addicted to the smoking saw sudden rise. last month, he received around 10 such cases. In the month of April, around 10 females were brought to his clinic by their kin.

The women had no remorse over their addiction. However, their kin were concerned. “Smoking usually attracts the people due to its mood altering character of nicotine. They should know that nicotine comprises 500 unwarranted substances in it which may cause deadly diseases like cancer,” Dr Nandkishore said.

The doctor said that there is immediate need to launch a drive against the smoking in the society. He said that there should be major focus on teenagers during the drive since that is the most vulnerable group. Awareness will definitely help in keeping some children away from smoking.

He said, “There are several medicines and method of treatments available those help in quitting smoking. They should consult the doctors, if they are serious to quit smoking. The females addicted to smoking must take efforts to quit smoking to avoid the syndrome.”

He also suggested that ironically smoking has social acceptance. There should be efforts to ban it completely to keep the deadly disease away from the people caused by tobacco chewing and smoking. He said that the affect of passive smoking was equally serious in some cases. So, there should be efforts to negate the smoking from society.
