The people of Jaunsar region alleged that thousands of people have fraudulently procured identification documents to avail benefits meant for scheduled tribe persons in the region. Addressing the media here on Sunday, members of public groups and residents of the region complained that despite orders of the High Court, the committee formed for identifying such persons has done nothing concrete so far. They, further, alleged that this glaring anomaly is depriving the native tribal people of their rights, which will not be tolerated.
Elaborating on this, the Jaunsar Bhabar Mahasabha (JBM) head Munna Singh Rana said, “There are thousands of people who are enjoying government jobs in the various sector on the basis of fraudulently procured idenfication as STs. This has taken away the rights of the people belonging to Jaunsar. The saddest part of all this is even after the direction of the High Court nothing has been done so far. We will not remain quiet until and unless something is done regarding this. The members of our group will hold a protest to raise this point in front of the chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat.”
JBM member Gambhir Chauhan said, “The order by the high court was given in May 2018 after which a committee was formed which includes the district magistrate and other members to verify the identity of such people. After the verification, strict action was supposed to be taken against every individual found guilty of fraudulently acquiring ST identification documents but nothing was done.
This highlights that the system is itself corrupt and officials are supporting these people in various ways which has taken away our rights.”
