A delegation of industrialists of Mahuakhedaganj in Udham Singh Nagar district alleged that while industrial enterprises are already facing problems due to malpractices, a truck union group formed recently has exacerbated the woes of the industrialists. This was stated by a delegation of the Kumaon Garhwal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KGCCI) meeting the sub divisional magistrate on Tuesday.
The delegation led by KGCCI Mahuakhedaganj chapter head Punit Singhal met the Kashipur SDM Dayanand Saraswati alleging that the industries here were already suffering because of illegal and indiscriminate stallage being charged on industrial purpose vehicles by a municipal contractor.
“Now, some local persons forming a ‘truck union’ are pressurising industrial units in Mahuakhedaganj to hire trucks only through them for transporting raw material and finished products. The ‘truck union’ people do not have their own trucks and will hire the same from transporters due to which the industrial enterprises will have to bear the unnecessary financial burden of additional haulage expense.
Some industrialists are also receiving threats on not securing haulage through this ‘union’, said Singhal. He further said that industrialists of the area are now frustrated due to the frequent threats and harassment from time to time by student union leaders, truck union and some local persons at times. The industrialists are worried about their future as they state that managing their enterprises in such conditions is not possible.
Taking cognisance of the facts presented by the delegation, the SDM assured that all possible assistance will be provided for the security of industrial enterprises and industrialists, and for clamping down on harassment.
A meeting will be held in the near future with the truck union and the Mahuakhedaganj industrialists attending to reach a unanimous decision for resolving the issue, added the SDM.
