The special feature of the ongoing Industrial Expo 2014 is the Buyer Seller Meets, a platform for interaction of vendors and suppliers with the corporates. The participating companies such as TATA Motors, Pantnagar; BHEl, Haridwar; Maruti Suzuki India ltd; JBM Group; Minda Corporation Pantnagar; Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala; and DMW Indian Railways, Patiala explained to the prospective suppliers/vendors from the MSME sector about their product requirements and product specifications.

The third edition of Industrial Expo, a B2B (Business to Business) Show with special focus on MSMEs and Buyer Seller Meets is being organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) jointly with the Department of MSME, Government of Uttarakhand at Haridwar from 6 - 9 November 2014.

The participation of the Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) such as BHEl, Diesel loco Modernisation Works (DMW) and Rail Coach Factory (RCF) of Indian Railways in the Buyer Seller Meets gained prominence on the back of Public Procurement Policy for Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) Order, 2012.

The Public Procurement Policy requires Ministries and the Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) to procure a minimum of 20 per cent of their annual procurements from MSMEs. Of this, 4 per cent has been earmarked for procurement from MSMEs owned by SC/ST entrepreneurs.

Diesel loco Modernisation Works (DMW), Patiala makes an annual purchase of spares worth Rs 700 crores every year for its production requirements, while Indian Railways annually procures materials worth Rs 22,000 crores, excluding fuel, said Harbans Singh, Dy Chief Materials Manager, DMW.

Singh said that presently suppliers from Uttarakhand constitute a small proportion of their total requirements. Therefore, we are here to explain our policy of procurement for materials and stores to local suppliers from Uttarakhand. We are looking for good quality supplier base from the state, he added.

DMW is interested in suppliers of spares for manufacturing of locos, maintenance of workshop and machines as per its deigns and specifications. DMW was set up in 1981 to manufacture diesel engine precision components to carry out the remanufacturing of various traction machines and engine blocks.

Bharat Heavy Electricals limited, a leading power generating equipment manufacturing organisation, is looking for vendo rs registered with NSIC. Ashwini Garg, AGM, PPX-EMX, BHEl, Haridwar said that the decision of the Government of India to reserve 20 per cent of the annual procurements of PSUs from the MSMEs is good for the sector, particularly from the Uttarakhand state. This will help in creating of additional employment avenues as MSMEs are more labour- intensive. He also explained the process to register with the BHEl, Haridwar.

Garg appreciated the Buyer Seller Meet platform and said that we have received many queries from local suppliers post last Industrial Expo 2013.

A Buyer Seller Meet by Rail Coach Factory (RCF), Kapurthala of Indian Railways is scheduled onSaturday, 8 November. RCF is interested in suppliers of metal to rubber bonded components (silent blocks), stainless and carbon steel fabricated items of ferritic and austenitic stainless steel, forging and casting items, dampers, FRP composite interiors and honeycomb partition frames.

RCF makes an annual purchase of approximately Rs 360 crores every year for its production requirements. This session gains prominence as the Indian Railways being a massive organisation does a substantial amount of procurement every year, which may significantly benefit the MSME sector.A number of PSUs are also participating in the Industrial Expo, which include BPCl, Canara Bank, BHEl etc.
