Indonesian artists stage musical drama of Ramayana

The international artists from Indonesia staged a musical drama of Indian epic Ramayana in Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya on Wednesday, leaving the students mesmerized. A 45- member troupe of artists from Bali was in the holy city to perform the Ramayana wherein episodes right from the stage of Gurukul education to the Ram vanvas and Hanuman’s devotion were enacted.

Notably, a large Indian Diaspora living and working in Indonesia share an important cultural bond with India.

Over the past two decades, India’s ‘look East’ policy has been complemented by Indonesia’s ‘look West’ policy in bringing the two countries closer.

Speaking on the nuances of the stage drama, a senior member of Indonesian troupe Dharm Yash said, “lot of importance is given to Mudras and emotions in the dance drama and it is a message as well.”
