Indira women groups to be formed in villages

Indira Priyadarshini women groups will be formed in all the villages of Uttarakhand in the memory of the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Works related to afforestation, education and rural development will be facilitated through these women groups slated to be opened in the villages. CM Harish Rawat announced this while speaking at a programme organised at the Congress Bhawan here on Wednesday.

The Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee had organised the programme to mark Indira Gandhi’s 98th birth anniversary as women empowerment day. Addressing party workers, Rawat said that Gandhi would easily make it to the list of the best PMs in the world

“People in India and even abroad were impressed by her personality. She was a messiah for the poor and had initiated work to eradicate poverty. Her personality was also connected with the common worker of the party and the tenets that she had followed will continue to give inspiration to us,” said Rawat.

The Uttarakhand PCC president Kishore Upadhyaya also addressed the gathering on the occasion. The newly elected Rajya Sabha member Manorama Dobriyal Sharma, Uttarakhand Mahila Congress chairperson Sarojini Kaintura, Uttarakhand PCC chief coordinator Jot Singh Bisht and other party members were also present.
