Sounding distressed over crumbling basic services in her constituency, State finance minister and MlA from Haldwani, Indira Hridayesh, has  given a dressing down to the Nainital district administration officials.

While reviewing the state of basic services at a meeting held here on Wednesday, she asked the officials concerned to either improve things, particularly on the fronts of drinking water and electricity or  be ready to face action.

Things compounding with   the soaring mercury, the  people keep suffering. Drinking water distribution is in a bad shape. However, despite this,   the officials are the least concerned, she said, adding that the government would not brook such nonchalance and would come down heavily on the errant officers.

The minister also stressed on the need to have better coordination among various executive agencies. The officials concerned from the tube-well wing, Jal Sansthan and irrigation department are supposed to improve a lot as far as their  performances are concerned, she  said.  Things are turning acute on the front of water not because of scarcity but because of the malfunctioning of the distribution machinery, Hridayesh said.

At the same time, she asked the officials to stop people from visiting   Gola river barrage in Haldwani for  picnic purpose. There are instances of people dying while bathing in the river. Some restriction must be imposed, she said. Aside from exhorting the officials to improve drinking water services, she asked them to better  other basic services too like traffic, parking,  health and power.
