Indira Amma Bhojanalaya's canteen's customers reach 2 lakh

Dehradun district magistrate Ravinath Raman accompanied with ex-commissioner (retired IAS) Municipal Corporation, Ahmadabad Keshav Verma visited Indira Amma Bhojanalaya near Clock Tower in Dehradun on Monday to mark the number of the canteen’s customers reaching up to two lakh.

Notably, it was the first of the chain of State government-subsidised cheap canteens that is supposed to be the dream, people-friendly project of the deposed Chief Minister Harish Rawat.

Rawat had said while inaugurating it that it would help the people with limited resources get a nutritious and full meal at affordable rates aside from popularising the native dishes of the State.

It was opened to the people on August 15, 2015. Inspired by its success, others in different regions of the State came up on November 19, marking the birth anniversary of the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi after whom the scheme was named.

A meal comprising a mixed preparation of Rajma-Udad-Bhatt, green vegetable, aaloo-gobhi, four chapattis, rice, green chutney and pickle is available for just Rs 20.

One Meena Joshi taking food here on Monday helped the canteen achieve the feat of recording  two lakh customers.

On the occasion DM Raman felicitated Joshi for helping the canteen achieve its feat in just over seven months.
