The Indian Army takes utmost care to maintain the high standards during the recruitment of soldiers, said the officers involved in the ongoing Army recruitment drive at Birpur cantt here on Sunday. The Deputy Director Recruiting (UP and Uttarakhand) Brig MD Chacko informed the media at the sidelines of the recruitment process at Birpur Cant ground that the selection process has two parts.
The first part which is initial screening, includes a rigorous physical and medical examination and in second part a written examination called Common Entrance Examination (CEE) of the screened candidates is taken.
In the physical screening process the candidates are put through a 1.6 km run which they have to complete in a stipulated time period. In the ongoing recruitment process most of the aspirants appear to falter at the first step and only 20 percent candidates are able to clear the race. The candidates are then asked to clear a hurdle of 9 feet ditch and pass through a zig zag obstacle. A separate independent team then examines the candidates’ height, weight and chest measurements. Brigadier Chacko said that any candidate who is not satisfied with his measurement can lodge his complaint at the ‘grievance cell’. He said that the candidates then pass through a detailed medical examination which is performed by team of trained medical officers. In case a candidate is declared ‘temporarily medically unfit’ he is referred to the medical specialist in the nearest Military Hospital (MH). A temporarily unfit candidate is given a 42 day time period while a ‘permanent unfit’ candidate is given 21 days time to appeal against the decision of the medical authority.
On Sunday the candidates of Pauri district appeared in the recruitment drive. The army authorities informed that 7932 candidates appeared in the recruitment out of which 453 were found fit to pass the first part of selection. In Soldier General Duty 371 candidates cleared the first phase while 32 candidates in Trade man, 26 candidates in Technician and 24 candidates in Soldier Clerk category cleared the first phase.
