Acting on complaints of tax evasion, the Investigation wing of the Directorate of Income Tax, Kanpur, conducted raids in 10 locations in Uttarakhand. The Graphic Era University in Dehradun and the properties of a Rishikesh based builder were the main targets of the raids conducted by the IT officials.
Though the department officials remained tight lipped and refused to share information about the raids and the findings, reliable sources said that almost 90 Income Tax sleuths conducted the road on various offices of Graphic Era University including the residence of its owner Kamal Ghanshala.
The officials took possession of various documents related to financial dealings and assets from the university. Police was deployed at the main gate of the institution to prevent anyone from disturbing the proceedings.
Officials of the university were also questioned by the officials regarding the suspected irregularities in the institution. Uttarakhand police personnel also assisted the IT officials in conducting the raids in Dehradun and elsewhere on Thursday.
