The district administration has sent a detailed 48-page report to the State OBC commission regarding the 40-year-old demand of the residents of Painkhanda area for the Brahmins and Rajputs of the area to be included in the Other Backward Class. The members of these two castes in the Painkhanda region of Joshimath block have been demanding OBC status for about four decades now.
The State OBC commission had sought the required format for inclusion of these two castes in the OBC category in response to which the district administration has submitted a detailed report to the commission.
According to senior advocate Ramesh Sati, the State OBC commission and State government would organise a public hearing on the issue for the people concerned. After this the commission would send its report to the State administration.
