Incessant rains throughout the day threw the normal life out of gear in the capital city and most parts of State on Sunday. The weathermen had predicted rainfall and snow in upper reaches on Saturday and as if to prove them right the rains lashed different part of the State on Sunday. People of the State capital were for a pleasant surprise as mercury was on upswing from last ten days; the increase in temperature had forced the residents of the city to pack their woollens. The rains were accompanied with gusty winds bringing the temperature down by several degrees forcing many people to wear warm clothes. The maximum temperature on Saturday was reported at 32.5 degree Celsius while on Sunday the rains limited the maximum temperature at 26.8 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature was 20.1 degree Celsius.
Apart from brining relief the rains also caused problems to common people. The markets wore a deserted look for most of the day as people preferred to remain indoors due to rain for most of the day. The candidates of the lecturer Teacher (lT) examination slated for the day faced problems to reach to their respective examination centres. One such aspirant Sunita Joshi said that she got completely drenched due to rains in her attempt to reach the examination centre.
The increased rainfall in the month of March is worrying farmers as the rains are not good for their harvest. The weathermen have recorded a rainfall of 160 Millimetre in the month of March this year, which is three times higher than the average for this month of the year. With a rainfall of 198 mm in the month of march the year of 1967 holds the record for maximum rains. The Meteorology department has predicted cloudy sky with light to moderate rainfall in many parts of the state on Monday. The department has forecasted rather heavy rain/snow at isolated places in hills especially in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Pithoragarh districts. Many areas could witness hailstorm/ thunder squall while snow fall (05 to 15 cm in depth) could occur at places with height around 3500 meters.
