Incessant rain hits power generation

Published on:

The incessant rain in the State is taking its toll on the hydro power stations of the State as silt in the rivers is causing problems in the power generation. The 198 MW Kalagarh power station which is not producing any power from last fortnight failed to generate any power on Sunday also.

The 40 MW Khatima power station generated only 18 MW power while 90 MW Maneri Bhali Phase I could generate only 30 MW power on Sunday. Similarly 304 MW Maneri Bhali phase II generated 190 MW power.

The 240 MW Chibro and 120 MW Khodri could not produce any power from 8.30 AM- 2.30 PM while 34 MW Dhakrani, 51 MW Dhalipur and 30 MW Kulhal power station failed to produce any power from 2.30 PM to 4 PM.

The Spokesperson of the Uttarakhand Power Corporation limited (UPCl) Madhusudan said that the corporation took 150 MW unallotted power from the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) to meet the shortfall in the production.

The UPCl retorted to power cut of 3 hours in the Udham Singh Nagar and rural areas of Garhwal, similarly a cut of 30 minutes was undertaken in SIIDCUl, Haridwar and Pantnagar.

It is worth mentioning here that the UPCl has entered into an understanding with Himachal Pradesh to meet the deficit in the production and is purchasing power from it.
