The Indian Muslim league (IMl) candidate from Haridwar parliamentary constituency along with party workers and Bahujan Samaj Party workers joined the Congress in the presence of Chief Minister Harish Rawat in Dehradun on Sunday. The CM welcomed to the Congress, Indian Muslim league candidate from Haridwar, Asif Hussain, Akil Ahmed, Afzal Ali and Gulzar of the Indian Muslim league, former district head of the BSP Yograj Singh along with leela Singh, Kamla Singh and others of the BSP. Addressing the newly inducted members of the Congress, Rawat said that they had joined the Congress in order to defeat ‘communal powers’ and that their entry would definitely strengthen the party. The CM further alleged that the BJP was trying to gain votes by dividing the society which is why it had sent Sangeet Som to Haridwar. Expressing gratitude to Asif Hussain, Rawat said Hussain had decided to abstain from contesting the election and had declared his support to the Congress candidate Renuka Rawat. He also claimed that Congress had facilitated the development of all sections of society in India.
The Congress Government in Uttarakhand will give a new direction to development in the State, he averred.
