The Indian Medical Association (IMA), the organization of private doctors has threatened to stop tests of Covid-19, if the administration continues to deal with a vindictive mindset. The association is particularly peeved at the Dehradun administration for initiating an investigation against the private labs for alleged irregularities in testing swab samples for Covid-19. Addressing the media persons here on Tuesday the general secretary of IMA Dr D D Chaudhury questioned the inquiry against the private labs.
He said that the Ahuja Lab is the first lab of the state which was directly approved by the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) for conducting Covid tests. Chaudhury said that the private labs are working in coordination with the state government but their image is deliberately being vilified and an impression is created that the private labs are falsely reporting more positive cases.
The IMA representative claimed that the lab of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital is not even approved by NABL. The IMA appealed to the chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat and health secretary Amit Singh Negi to intervene in the issue. Chaudhury said that IMA is ready to provide every possible help in inquiry provided the district administration refrains from creating wrong perception about private labs.
The IMA has suggested that instead of getting nervous over the increase in the number of cases of Covid—19, the administration should make arrangements for proper treatment of patients.
