If deputations cancelled, DMC hosp will be left with only one radiologist

The decision of the state health directorate to cancel all deputation postings has created a situation where only one radiologist would remain in the radiology department of the associated hospital of Doon Medical College if the order of the directorate is implemented.

The radiology department of the hospital at present is being run by two radiologists, Dr Yatindra Singh and Dr S K Jha. Apart from them the female wing of the hospital has another radiologist Dr Subodh Nautiyal.

Dr Jha is actually posted in Government hospital Mussoorie but in view of patient load in Dehradun the authorities has sent him on deputation here.

In Dehradun also Dr Jha alternatively handles the radiology department of Doon hospital and Coronation hospital for three days a week each.

The medical college had recently appointed one radiologist, Dr Gurubaksh lal on the post of Senior Resident (SR). However the doctor is on a long leave as he has undergone a bypass surgery.

The state Director General (DG) of health services Dr Kusum Narriyal had recently ordered that the department heads and Chief Medical Officers (CMO) that all deputations should immediately be cancelled.

The order means that  Dr Jha would be removed from the hospital and would be shifted to Mussoorie. In that case the entire load of the department would fall on Dr Yatindra Singh.

The department has services of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), CT scan, Ultra Sound, Digital X ray,X ray, Mammography and Bone Marrow densitometer. The department serves more than 400 patients a day.

The Medical Superintendent of the hospital Dr K K Tamta accepted that the services of the department would be hampered by shifting of a doctor. He said that he has requested the state government to deploy some other radiologist in the hospital.

The medical health and family welfare department is facing acute shortage of radiologists, out of 135 sanctioned posts only 35 radiologists are working in the state so the chances of a radiologist being transferred from other place to the hospital are also remote.
