Urdu translators who were appointed to translate old rules into Hindi are likely to be merged with the post of ASI (Ministerial). Urdu translation is not being done in the police stations for some time and keeping this into consideration, a proposal has been sent to the State Government for merging them with ASI (M). This issue is under consideration of the State Government, said State additional director general of police (administration) Ram Singh Meena on Monday.
ADGP Meena said that the recruitment of Urdu translators had been done in 1995 during the time of undivided Uttar Pradesh. After Uttarakhand came into existence, around 71 Urdu translators were posted in various police stations in the State. Some of them retired or died.
However as per the Government sources, though there are around 102 vacant posts of the Urdu translators there is no work assigned to them in the police stations. They were recruited in the police department as several old reports were written in Urdu and translators were needed in the police department. Presently, around 61 Urdu translators are working in various police stations in the State.
Due to absence of assigned work, these Urdu translators are being deputed to do clerical works in the police department.
