Accompanied by a large number of supporters, the sitting MlA and Congress candidate Harish Chandra Durgapal filed his nomination paper from the lalkuan Vidhan Sabha constituency on Tuesday. Some locals observe that the numerical strength of those rallying in a show of support to Durgapal could be a hint of the challenging contest for the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate contesting from lalkuan constituency.
Congress workers congregated at Shaheed Smarak in large numbers and rallied to the nomination centre in a show of strength supporting Durgapal. He had contested the 2012 assembly polls as an independent after being denied the party ticket but this time has been fielded by the Congress from lalkuan.
Expressing gratefulness to the party leadership for fielding him, Durgapal said that his main aim will be to facilitate development for public welfare. Such was the throng accompanying the candidate that when Durgapal’s procession reached the Tehsil gate there was some jostling with his supporters reportedly having minor arguments with the police though the situation was prevented from escalating by the police.
