The liquor shops located in Dehradun saw unusual crowds of buyers jostling among themselves to buy their favourite booze brands with the owners selling liquor at much cheaper rates, Wednesday being the last day of the financial year. Notably, the state government had extended the effective period of the licenses of the liquor shops for a month till May 31. New licenses were awarded to the applicants following lottery for the year 2017 (June 1 to March 31, 2018) on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Ramesh, who was found coming out from a liquor shop located at Survey Chowk with a beaming face, said, “I purchased two bottles of liquor as the prices were substantially slashed.
Each bottle cost me around Rs 200 less than the MRP.” A liquor shop operator based at Clock Tower said that to finish the available stocks, they had slashed the prices. “We are happy that the stocks are nearly exhausted,” he said.
