Hudhud effect: State sees rains in many areas

Published on:

Several areas of Uttarakhand experienced rains on Tuesday due to the impact of Cyclone Hudhud. Uttarakhand received rainfall two days after the Cyclone Hudhud had lashed several parts of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. No report of casualty was, however, reported from any part of the State so far.

However, the Uttarakhand Metrological Centre director Anand Sharma attributed the current spell of rainfall more to the existing western disturbances rather than to the impact of Cyclone Hudhud. light to moderate rainfall has been predicted at isolated places in the next 24 hours in the State. The minimum temperature is likely to come down by 2 to 3 degrees in the next 24 hours in the State, he added.

State residents woke up in the morning amidst light to moderate rainfall with high-speed winds blowing attended by thunder, resulting in the temperature plummeting by a few degrees.

Dehradun received 13.8 mm rainfall, leading to a drop in the day temperature by a few degrees. The officer goers and school students who had tucked their raincoats in the cupboards after being sure that the monsoon had finally withdrawn from Uttarakhand had to take them out. Following drop in the temperature, some residents donned woolens-a fact that signifies the onset of winter.  Till noon, the sky was overcast. By the afternoon, the clouds dispersed, making for a clear sky. The minimum temperature was recorded 18.4°C. Dehradun received 13.8 mm rainfall while the figures were 4.2 mm in New Tehri, 39 in Mukteshwar and 33 mm in Pantnagar.

Sharma said that the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 23.8°C and 18.4°C respectively in Dehradun on Tuesday. The weather forecast for Dehradun on Wednesday is partly cloudy sky and thunder cloud development may occur in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be hovering in the neighbourhood of 29°C and 17°C respectively on Wednesday in Dehradun. The weather forecast for Uttarakhand is- light rain/thunder shower at isolated places, especially in Kumaon region of Uttarakhand.
