The Haridwar- Roorkee Development Authority (HRDA) is mulling over building a number of residential colonies with multi-option facility for small, medium and large families to accommodate the rising population of the professionals working for the industries and other sectors. The HRDA officials say that the number of the professionals working in the industrial units under SIIDCUl is increasing rapidly. They need to be accommodated as well as those who are working in other sectors, they say, adding that the housing projects when they come up would ease the acute accommodation problem the city is grappling with.
It is learnt that the city is all set to get one more HRDA-approved colony soon. The officers say that HRDA would construct Inderlok Phase 2 residential Colony in Roshanabad. Under the plan, 768 houses of three, two and one BHK houses would be built over 12 acres of land.
Till now, six such residential colonies have been provided by HRDA and they are Gayatri lok near Prem Nagar Ashram Chowk on National Highway, Harilok near Jwalapur Sabji Mandi, Shivlok near BHEl township, Rishilok in Rishikesh, Shyamlok near BHEl and Inderlok Colony Phase I in Roshanabad.
Speaking to The Pioneer, chief finance officer of HRDA, Dr Tanjim Ali said on Tuesday, “Plans are afoot to make Inderlok Phase 2 Colony. We would soon come up with other residential facilities for the people,” he said.
There are a number of factors which has pushed up the demand for housing facilities in the city over the recent years. As the migrants to the city prefer to settle in areas near their workplaces Inderlok has become a lucrative option for them. “ The plots and flats would be allocated under the lottery system. Since the space is not in tune with the demand all the applicants might not be benefited by the upcoming projects. The amount to be paid as advance would be returned to those applicants who fail to figure in the lottery draw list. Things would remain totally transparent from lottery draw to returning of amount deposited,” said Ali.
Another tendency is also being noticed among those eager to avail the housing facilities provided by HRDA. “We have noticed that the people want to settle in places where their friends or relatives have already settled and also at places where there are shops and markets aside from the cultural facilities involving ethnic backgrounds in adequate number. Since SIIDCUl has one shopping mall and Inderlok Colony has good access to it the prospects of the colony we have proposed to come up with are high,” said a senior HRDA officer.
