Heavy police force had to be deployed on Thursday morning to disperse people protesting outside a hospital here. The protesters accused the hospital of negligence resulting in the death of two women post delivery.

Twenty three year old Sonam, was admitted to the CMI hospital situated in Jwalapur Peeth Bazaar on Wednesday late night where she delivered a baby boy. Family members state that her condition deteriorated at about 9.30 am on Thursday. She was administered an injection after which she started frothing from the mouth. The doctors referred her to another hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival. Sonam’s parents Rizwan and Ruksana allege that she died due to the ‘wrong’ injection being administered by the doctor. Ruksana said, “Sonam died soon after she was administered the injection but to safeguard themselves, the doctors referred her to higher medical center.”

In another case Pathri area resident Ranjeeta was admitted to CMI hospital on Wednesday morning and she delivered a baby at 2 pm. Her family members allege that her condition deteriorated after she was administered wrong medicine by the nurse. She was referred to Jolly Grant hospital where she died on Thursday. Her husband Anil and villagers reached the hospital on Thursday. The police removed the crowd from the hospital premises with adjacent shops also being closed down to prevent disruption and damage.

Police circle officer Rajesh Bhatt told The Pioneer,”It is not the first time that such an incident has happened. We have been receiving complaints repeatedly. As many as 13 cases have been reported during the past five years wherein family members accused the hospital of negligence causing death. There was one case of a surgical glove being left inside the body of a patient operated upon which led to septic resulting in death,” he said.
