The plan of State Government to open ‘Beheno Ki Rasoi’ at Doon Hospital in line with Indira Amma Bhojnalaya to provide cheap and quality
food to the attendants of admitted patients is being opposed by the hospital staff.
On the initiative of State Chief Minister Harish Rawat, the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) is scouting for an appropriate place inside the campus of Doon hospital for opening the cheap food stall. On Tuesday, the Vice-chairman of MDDA, R Meenakshi Sundaram visited the hospital and inspected some sites. The Principal Medical Superintendent (PMS) of Doon Hospital, Dr R S Aswal also accompanied him during his visit.
It is learnt that in view of the space constraint in the campus, the hospital authorities are not too keen for the plan. One of a senior doctor of the hospital said that it is good that some facility of cheap and quality food is made for the attendants of patients, but the hospital is too crowded for such a stall. “I have heard that the MDDA has selected a place below the overhead water tank. There is no space available in the hospital and it is advisable that the authorities select a place in the neighboring Municipal Corporation office, which has ample space for such a thing. The attendants of patients can easily approach this site,” he said. One of a pharmacist posted in the hospital said that the cheap food stall would attract large number of other people from outside in the already crowded campus. He said that there is already a canteen in the hospital, which provides food to the patients and as far as the attendants are concerned, the existing Indira Amma Bhojnalaya is not far from the hospital.
The State Government launched the Indira Amma Bhojnalaya amid much fanfare on August 15 at HN Bahuguna Complex of MDDA near clock tower. The pleasing ambience and good quality of food here is attracting large number of people where a meal consisting of four chapattis, vegetable, Rice, Dal along with salad and pickle is being offered at `20 only. Emboldened at the huge success of Indira Amma Bhojnalaya, the State Government is planning to open similar joints at other places.
