The authorities of Doon Hospital here have sent a proposal to buy a new Computerised Tomography (CT) scan machine. The radiologists of the hospital believed that the new machine will go a long way in solving the problem created by old machine which breaks down regularly.
Doon hospital, which is the largest Government hospital of the State, caters to large number of patients who visit the Regional Diagnostic Centre located here. The present machine is prone to break downs as it has become quite old. Senior radiologist at the hospital Dr Yatendra Singh told The Pioneer that the old machine catered only 30-35 patients daily but with the new machine 150 patients daily could be checked. He said that the department has sought the latest Dual Energy based CT scan machine with a capability of 128 slices.
The department of Neurosurgery here has also requested for this latest machine as it will help them in better and speedy diagnosis. The hospital authorities plan to put the existing CT scan machine -in case they get a new one- in the emergency ward of the hospital so that the trauma patients get the facility of immediate CT scan. They also say the recent fiasco caused by failure of MRI machine for two months would not be repeated if one machine is on standby.
The CT scan uses a computer that takes data from several X-ray images of structures inside human body and converts them into pictures on a monitor. Tomography is the process of generating a 2-dimensional image of a slice or section through a 3-dimensional object
The Principal Superintendent of Doon Hospital Dr R S Aswal told this correspondent that the hospital has sent the proposal for the new machine to the office of Director General Health. It is pertinent to mention that the health ministry had in past rejected the proposal for the CT scan machine capable of 128 slices due to cost escalations.
