Hordes of youth seeking jobs from across the district on Monday flocked to Panna lal Bhalla Inter- College campus where a job fair is being organised by Zila Sewa Yojna department. The two- day fair is being organised to help the unemployed youth register with the office. Over 50 companies from SIIDCUl are camping in the fair, seeking professionals among the youth. The second day of the fair would see interviews principally involving management graduates and postgraduates.
Inaugurating the fair, the State skill development Minister Harak Singh Rawat said that the fair has given a platform to the youth from Haridwar to get registered for placements. Besides, they would have scope to talk to those running the industrial units, he said, adding the platform has come up to make a direct interaction between the job seekers and their prospective employers. Among others present at the fair was the State Urban Development Minister Madan Kaushik.
Interestingly, Anand Singh Bisht, the father of Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister Adityanath Yogi, came to the fair to have some names of some job seekers registered. Those who were with him included his granddaughters lakshmi Rawat and Archana Bisht. However, they said that they want to get jobs sans any favouritism done to them.
Speaking to The Pioneer, niece of Adityanath Yogi, lakshmi Rawat said, “We are for selection without favouritism of any kind. The process must be impartial, based on the sole criterion of the candidate’s ability.” Archana echoed the same sentiment, saying that the youth if recruited through fair means would get resolved not to compromise with integrity after they land in jobs. “They might in future contribute to weed out corruption from the places they would be working in,” she said.
The first day of the fair saw many job seekers getting placement assurances from the members of SIIDCUl Manufacturers Association. The chairman of the association Harendra Garg said, “Some 1200 to 1300 vacancies are expected to be filled by nearly 60 companies in course of the two-day job fair. On Monday, those with polytechnic and intermediate school background came while interviews of the MBAs and B- Techs would be held on Tuesday.”
Prashant Kumar, a commerce graduate, looked exulted when he was called to join one of the companies from SIDCUl as a store assistant. “Such fairs are a excellent platform for the job seekers. This makes it easy for us to approach the companies which are otherwise inaccessible for us,” he said.
