After being appointed as Governor of the State of Maharashtra, former Uttarakhand Chief Minister and former MP, Bhagat Singh Koshyari, said that his appointment to the post was an honour not only for him but also for the State of Uttarakhand. Koshyari said this after being felicitated by his supporters at State guest house in Haridwar on Sunday.

Speaking to the media persons, Koshyari said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had honoured him and Uttarakhand by appointing him Governor of Maharashtra. He said his appointment was a message to the common man that poverty could not stop anyone from coming forward in life and be in the mainstream. He said it was a moment of pride for him to be appointed Governor of a big State like Maharashtra.

When asked about the major challenges on getting this constitutional post, he said that he was always working constitutionally in every matter and was a law abiding citizen having an RSS background. So, the constitutional Sanskars were inbuilt in him and he will continue doing that while administering his duties as Governor.

He said Maharashtra was centre of Bollywood and Indian cinema and had enormous tourism opportunities which he would work on by building a bridge between Uttarakhand tourism and Maharashtra tourism departments. More opportunities could be explored in development of the State, he said, since he was going from the State of Chota Kailash to the land of Vitthal, the religion was a common factor predominant in both the States. So, there is enormous scope for enhancing religious tourism in Maharashtra, he added.
