Dehradun police have busted a gang involved in looting unsuspecting persons by honey trapping them.
Police had started acting after one Nishant Jain, a builder by profession and a resident of Inderbaba Road, Rajpur, had submitted a complaint at Rajpur police station on January 11. In the complaint, he had said that he had received a call from a girl who expressed her desire to purchase a flat from him. The complainant had said that the girl had even given him her whatsApp number on which she said she would be happy if he showed her some flats to choose from. On January 10, the girl had called the builder near IT Park and taken him to a flat which the girl claimed was hers.
When the builder had entered the flat along with the girl, some miscreants who were already present there had attacked him and held him captive. The attackers had then taken the builder to a desolate place on Thano Road and robbed him of cash amounting to Rs 10,000 and valuables (gold bracelet, four gold rings and two mobiles).
Addressing the media persons while parading the culprits, the senior superintendent of police (SSP) Dehradun, Nivedita Kukreti said that in view of the serious nature of the crime, a team headed by SP city and CO Mussoorie had been constituted.
On investigation, the police team with the help of SOG has arrested Durgapur/Asansol (West Bengal) resident Prikanya Biswas and her partner Himanshu Negi, a resident of Rajeshwar Nagar Dehradun, on January 15.
The duo had accepted their involvement in the plan to lure the builder to loot him, said SSP. “They told the police while being grilled that after committing the crime, they had fled the flat and had intended to flee from Dehradun. They further told the police that Priyanka was planning to purchase a flat in Dehradun and had even paid an advance of Rs 5lakh for it. They devised a plan to make easy money by luring Nishant Jain into a trap.
In this task, they sought the help of Meerut-based Nikhil, Shiva and Himanshu Kamboj. On Thursday, the police also arrested Nikhil, Shiva and Himanshu,” SSP added.
The SSP praised the efforts of the police team in solving the crime.
The team recovered one 7.65 mm pistol, two magazines, seven live cartridges and some other items from their possession.
