The recruitment process on 366 posts of home guards in four districts-Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, Pithoragarh and Chamoli- is almost completed and its result will be declared soon, said State Commandant General home guards and additional director general of police (law and order) Ram Singh Meena on Friday. The home guards have also been accorded up to five percent reservation in the recruitment of constables, he added.
Meena said that the recruitment process for home guards had started in these districts a month ago. The selected home guards in urban areas will be given 57 days of training in their districts.Woman home guards will undergo training for 94 days’ departmental training at their districts. All the home guards will be given 10 days’ training at home guard central training office- Haldwani and Srinagar.
The home guards are deployed on various works like maintaining law and order, crime and traffic.They also work as computer operators in the police department. Attending emergency duties is one among their long list of duties. Home guards are handling all the jobs at par with the constables. Save for a month, they are given jobs throughout the year.
Around 783 posts are vacant in the remaining districts as 176 posts of home guards are vacant in Nainital, 74 in Champawat, three in Bageshwar, 187 in Almora, 87 in Dehradun, 166 in Pauri, 15 in Rudraprayag, 68 in Tehri and seven in Uttarkashi.
The process of recruitment will soon be started with the approval from the State Government. Several welfare schemes are being implemented by the State Government for the welfare of home guards and their families. The State Government had increased daily wages of home guards from Rs200 to Rs 250 few years ago. Around 4, 000 home guards are serving in different wings of the police department and State Government. As per requirement, home guards are employed in the police department.
Home guards are rewarded on a par with police constables for their success in cracking cases. The facility of age relaxation is available for home guards when they apply for any posts in police and fire services departments, he added.
