HNB varsity to have one of six advanced centres for yoga studies

An advanced centre for Yoga studies would be developed in the campus of Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal Central University (HNB, GCU) to promote Yoga studies in the State.  On the eve of the second International Yoga day, the Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry had selected six central universities where these centres would be developed and the HNB, GCU is one them.

The MHRD would provide financial assistance to these universities to run courses in Yoga studies. It is worth mentioning here that the University already has a Yoga department from 1996.  The Officer on Special Duty (OSD) of the university, D S Negi told The Pioneer that the proposed centre would be developed in such a way so that it meets the demand of an International study centre for Yoga studies.

He said that the University already offers courses of MA in Yoga and Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) studies. The university has at present two Assistant Professors and two instructors of Yoga. Negi said that new courses in Yoga studies would be started once the proposed centre comes into existence. He said that a full fledged Yoga department would be now part of the University and the students interested in Yoga studies would have a wide choice of programmes and courses.
