The HNB Garhwal Central University vice-chancellor Professor SP Singh has approved the confirmation of 200 non-teaching staff and stated that the other pending demands of the employees will be submitted to committees concerned for action.
The Garhwal Central University non-teaching staff association members had been agitating in support of their pending demands since August 5 and due to work boycott by the non-teaching staff and daily wagers, the work of the university was paralysed during the agitation with the association deciding to continue agitating till the demands were met.
The Garhwal Central University non-teaching staff association president Rajendra Singh Bhandari said that following the positive response of the vice chancellor, the association had called off the agitation though two meets held with the registrar had failed to achieve any result. The vice chancellor has approved the confirmation of 200 employees and the remaining pending demands will be put in the MACT and ACP committee for consideration, which will be held on August 25.
The matter of temporary and daily wage employees will be taken up by the executive council and the matter of increasing daily wages will be referred to the finance committee. Bhandari said that the protesting employees had called off their agitation in view of the positive response receved from the VC. He expressed hope that the pending demands of the employees will be resolved soon.
