HMT employees seek Kunjwal's intervention

Published on:

A delegation of the employees of the HMT factory based in Ranibag, Haldwani, who have been on protest against the Centre’s decision to wind up this public sector unit for the past 89 days,  called on the Speaker of the Uttarakhand Assembly, Govind Singh Kunjwal, on Monday, asking him to intervene to end the impasse.

They served a letter containing their charter of demands to the Speaker. They urged him to have a resolution passed in the State Assembly to stonewall the Centre’s move to wind up the unit. Kunjwal assured he would take up their long-pending issues with the State and Central Governments.

The State and Central Governments must come up with  a working plan to ensure  the public sector giant where  over 500 people are working revives, maintained Kunjwal.  The agitators demanded clearance of their salary backlog  since April 2014 and restoration of  electricity supply to the HMT unit which had been cut off a long time ago.
