Doon-based Society for Inclusive Development (SFID) has planned the “Himalayan Yuva Prerna Yatra (HYPY), five-day journey for young participants from 22 States of India, Bangladesh and Sri lanka, from May 25. The journey will begin from Doon University.

SFID works on an innovative model to link rural economy with “life long learning skills”, through direct field visits with special focus on youth of rural and urban India.

SFID head Anil Jaggi says, “India will be the youth capital of the world and we need to design and develop youth-specific livelihood options, so that it will check the migration from rural to urban regions, especially in the Himalayan region where migration rate has gone up manifold after the formation of Uttrakhand.”

“Such programs and models are very essential and important to check the migration and create livelihood option, which are new and creative in nature and sustainable for its organic growth and prosperity of the region,” said Manoj Sharma, main coordinator of HYPY.

HYPY would be a five days long interactive journey in the hills. Participants from all over India are selected to join this yatra on the basis of their passion, interest and commitment to do something for the rural Himalayan region and local community.

Starting from Doon University, HYPY will proceed for Uttarkashi and Tehri district, where the youth will have direct interaction with local farmers and change makers, federations’ members, and self-sustainable Self-Help Groups.

HYPY, will also see some micro level interventions in the domain of Village and Community based tourism and look at the very successful model of Dhanolti Eco Park, a model developed and working with Forest Department and local community. HYPY will go on to Patanjali Food park to interact with various linkages of Patanjali.

After the yatra, SFID will invite social business models from participants and select some of them to implement and execute them in Uttrakhand.
