Herd of elephants damages solar fencing in Garjia

Published on:

A herd of elephants broke down the solar fencing and caused damage to the forest department rest house at Garjia in Corbett national park late on Saturday night. Corbett deputy director Saket Badola told The Pioneer that the department staff was out on patrol in Garjia area on Saturday night when a herd of elephants broke the solar fencing of the department rest  house where they broke a couple of glass window panes, fixtures and a few mudda chairs. The herd believed to be small in size paid the rest house a visit at a time in the night when there were no persons facing a risk from the pachyderms.

The forest department team out on night patrol is reported to have heard sounds surmised by staff to have been caused by the elephants at the rest house.

However, the elephants had left the site and continued their movement onward by the time the patrol team reached the Garjia rest house, said Badola.
