Uttarakhand Governor Dr KK Paul urged ONGC to come forward and help the young talent of the State to realise their potential which often goes waste due to lack of financial support.
These CSR activities will help boost the progress and development of the state and be a significant step in nation- building, he said.
Addressing a gathering of ONGC personnel and graduate trainees at the ONGC Academy to mark the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of the number one “Maharatna” corporation of the country, Dr Paul said that having its origins in the soils of the Doon valley, ONGC must make special efforts towards “adopting” sportspersons and helping them get facilities and training that would enable them to compete well at national and international sports events. He further exhorted ONGC to support the girls from underprivileged families living in the remote hill areas of the state so as to enable them to attain higher education. Dr Paul also visited the ONGC museum at Tel Bhavan.
Congratulating all the employees of the organisation on the occasion of its diamond jubilee, the Governor said that the the Doon valley, the headquarters of the ONGC, could not be imagined without the existence of the ONGC as the growth of this corporate giant, since its inception in 1956 in this city, has been almost synonymous with the growth of Dehradun.
Sixty years’ long illustrious journey of ONGC has been a tale of conviction, courage and commitment, he said, adding that ONGC could give leadership to the world in the management of energy sources, exploration of energy sources, diversification of energy sources, technology in Underground Coal Gasification, and above all, finding new ways of tapping energy wherever it is, to meet the ever-growing demand of the country.
ONGC should focus on adopting technologies that would ensure the safety of its men, especially in deep sea exploration, Dr Paul opined while adding that more and more research should be done by the organisation to enable it to become a safer and cheaper option, making it a world leader in oil technology. Future lies with shale gas and lNG(liquefied Natural Gas), he stressed.
He said the organisation should ensure that the morale of its employees remains high as this would lead to maximum efficiency and productivity. He said research should be carried on to develop better blowout prevention and control techniques, and fire re- safety should be a priority.
More research should be undertaken to reduce pollution caused by oil spills in the sea the Governor said. Gas tanker ships should be used more than pipelines in some situations. “Tankers tend to be safer than pipelines to move around gas and oil, even though they require expensive port facilities. They are flexible in that they have more elasticity of supply, and can sail around the trouble-spots that make pipelines vulnerable.”
He asked the graduate trainees to be prepared for the challenges lying before them as they were now a part of the organisation which is India’s energy anchor. “The country is looking at you as a solution provider for E&P challenges,” he said.
The Governor expressed the hope that the ONGC would also be in a strong position to avail the opportunity of harnessing renewable energy on a large scale in keeping with the vision of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and creating new paths of energy security for the nation.
