The Char Dham pilgrimage that started a few days ago might face disruption as the Uttarakhand Meteorological Centre has forecast heavy rainfall at isolated place in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, and Pithoragarh districts at least for two days starting from May 12.

Notably, while Badrinath is situated in Chamoli district Kedarnath is in Rudraprayag district and Gangotri and Yamunotri shrines are in Uttarkashi.

While issuing the heavy shower warning, the Meteorological Centre director Bikram Singh said an advisory has been issued for the Char Dham pilgrims, asking them to be alert and to keep themselves updated with   the weather forecast and warnings being issued from time to time.

He also stressed on the administrative officials and the in-charges of Char Dham Yatra to keep close coordination among themselves.  Farmers have also been advised to avoid going for irrigation during next the 10 days as the spell with varying intensity might drag for the next 10 days.

He said that the current meteorological analysis and numerical weather prediction models indicate the formation of a trough in lower levels from Punjab to North Bay of Bengal across Haryana, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh. “The trough is likely to persist during next 10 days with the western- end shifting northwards from May 12 and will remain close to the foothills of the Himalayas on May 14 and May 15. The western- end is likely to shift southward thereafter over its initial position,” Singh added.

Under the influence of above meteorological conditions, light to moderate rainfall/thunderstorm activities is likely to occur at many places from May 9 to May 11 and again from May 14 to May 18 with moderate rainfall/thunderstorm activities being forecast to lash many places in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts of Uttarakhand on May 12 and May 13.
