Heavy rainfall likely at isolated places in Doon today: Weatherman

Published on:

With the monsoon officially reaching Uttarakhand a bit late as compared to the earlier forecast on June 25/26, Uttarakhand Meteorological Centre has forecast heavy rainfall at many isolated places especially in Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Nainital districts of the state during the next 24 hours.

With intermittent rain lashing the higher reaches and the sky remaining overcast in Dehradun, the maximum temperatures have dipped  by a few notches  on Tuesday.  With the mercury having plummeted by four degrees in Dehradun, the people have  got some relief from  the hot and humid condition that prevailed for the past many days on Tuesday. However, the aftermath of Monday’s rain saw many roads and  localities waterlogged. The people resent the sluggishness of the administration in addressing the  water logging  issue, a few days left for the monsoon to arrive.

Bikram Singh, director of Uttarakhand Metrological Centre, said that the maximum temperature has settled at 29.7ºC (four degree below the normal) while the minimum at 23.2ºC (normal) in Dehradun. It was 19.2ºC (four degree below the normal) and 14.1ºC (normal) in Mukteshwar and 33.5ºC (two degree below the normal) and 24.0ºC (one degree below the normal) in Pantnagar. In Tehri district, maximum temperature was reported as 21.2 degree Celsius while the minimum was 15.8 degree Celsius on Tuesday.  Over the past 24 hours by 8.30 am on Tuesday, 60 mm rainfall was reported in Dehradun and 30 mm each in Mussoorie and Rudraprayag. The weather forecast for Uttarakhand on Wednesday is generally cloudy sky with the possibility of  light to moderate rain/thunder showers at many places in Uttarakhand.
