In a recent decision taken to check the illegal operation of Vikram tempos in the State capital, RTO officials have decided to penalise such operators under section 71 of Uttarakhand Motor Vehicle Act 2011.
Additional Regional Transport Officer (ARTO), Sandeep Saini informed that stringent action would be taken against the illegal tempo operators found flouting the permit norms. He also said that necessary instructions have already been issued to the officials.
Meanwhile, Vijay Vardhan Dandriyal, president of Mahanagar City Bus Mahasangh said, “We had reminded the RTO officials several times to take necessary action against the illegal Vikram operators, but no serious action has been taken against them yet”.
Earlier, the RTO officials had assured that action would be taken only after conducting a meeting with Transport Commissioner. However, this meeting has not yet been scheduled.
It must be mentioned here that the city bus union members had alleged earlier that only 783 of the nearly 1,600 Vikram tempos operating in the city had valid permits.
However, the Vikram Jankalyan Sewa Samiti (VJSS) members have asked the RTO officials to make certain amendments in the current stage carriage permit meant for the city buses and allow the same for Vikram tempo operators.
