Hearing in the matter of hiked fees for private schools deferred

Date of hearing in the matter of hiked fees for private schools in Haridwar district slated on Tuesday has been deferred due to the death of former President APJ  Abdul Kalam. The hearing would be held on September 4.

It may be mentioned that ADJ Haridwar had issued a notice in the first week of July to the private schools of the district, asking  their managements to explain reasons  behind the steep fee hike imposed on the students.

Advocate Rajesh Singh Rathore said that due to seven-day national mourning, the  hearing was  not held on Tuesday and  new date  has been fixed    on September 4.

Steep hike in tuition fees along with other equally ‘unjustified’ demands have landed the guardians in deep crisis. A Public Interest litigation (PIl) was filed by Rule of law and Justice Society of Haridwar on the matter  in the first week of May. Taking up the PIl, district judge NS Dhanik had issued notices to 15 private schools located across the district.

Notably, acting on the PIl, DJ had ordered the respondent to reply by July 3 in the court. In a fresh move, DJ passed the PIl to the ADJ Haridwar Vindhyachal Singh for further hearing in this case.

Arvind Srivastava, president of the society, said that they had demanded actions against 15 private schools of the district for arbitrarily pressuring the guardians  to pay more  for  tuition  and other fees.
