The Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD) activist Sameer Mukherjee sitting on a fast-unto-death had to be hospitalised on Thursday because of deteriorating health. The UKD member was staging a hunger strike at the statue of Indra Mani  Badoni near clock tower from November 07.

On Thursday morning Mukherjee fainted following which he was rushed to Doon hospital emergency. The activist initially refused medical aid but after persuasion of doctors and UKD members broke his fast.

The UKD leader N K Gusain told The Pioneer that activists of the party are sitting on hunger strike from last six days but none from Government or administration is paying any heed. He said that the party is demanding that the Gairsain should immediately be declared as the permanent capital of Uttarakhand.

He accused both the Congress and BJP of deceiving the people of the State on the issue. Gusain said that 3500 employees were recruited in Uttarakhand Transport Corporation in last five years but most of them are not the natives of the State. He said that all these recruitments should immediately be cancelled.

The UKD is also demanding cancellation of lease of land of city bus stand to the GTM Company and a CBI probe in the Kedarnath disaster relief scam. The regional party of the State is of the view that all the class III and class IV posts in Uttarakhand should exclusively be reserved for the domiciled unemployed youth of the State.
