The Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Harish Rawat announced the much-awaited Chief Minister’s health insurance scheme which would also cover the Above Poverty line (APl) patients on the occasion of the Republic Day on Monday. The medical insurance scheme aims to provide cashless treatment to a population of about 85 lakh in the State.

Making the announcement during the Republic Day Celebrations held at Parade Ground here on Monday Rawat said that the purpose of the scheme is to provide relief to common public. He informed that both APl and BPl families have been included in this scheme.  However the scheme will not cover the families of tax payers and the government employees.

Under the scheme the beneficiaries would be able to get treatment in the government and the empanelled private hospitals. The state government would bear the cost of treatment up to Rs50,000 under the scheme in one financial year. The beneficiaries would be provided a health card for the cashless facility which would cover 1350 types of diseases. Under the scheme all the members of the family would be covered and the benefit can be availed either by all or any one member up to the maximum level of the medical insurance cover.

The CM’s health insurance scheme would start functioning from April 1. Under the present health insurance scheme which is applicable till March 31 only Below Poverty line (BPl) patients are included and the limit of their cashless treatment is Rs30,000.  It is worth mentioning here that the fare incurred by the patients while travelling to government and the empanelled private hospitals for treatment will be reimbursed by the state government.

The scheme received positive comments from the common public and those in the medical fraternity. The former President of the Provincial Medical and Health Service (PMHS) Dr B C Ramola said that the scheme would help majority of the population of the state.
