In the biggest reshuffle of doctors of State Health Services since creation of the State, 241 medical officers were transferred by the State health department on Friday.
In a departure from normal procedure the State administration has released separate orders for all 241 transferred doctors. The department in an effort to strengthen the district hospitals has sent as many as 170 doctors from plain areas to those located in mountainous region. Similarly 71 doctors working in mountainous areas from last many years are shifted to hospitals located in Dehradun, Haridwar and Udham Singhnagar districts. These transfers are done on such a major scale that they have affected almost thirty percent of all serving medical officers of state health department.
The doctors posted for long duration in the associated hospital of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC), female wing of Doon hospital, coronation hospital and Premnagar hospital have been shifted in these orders. The State Government has proceeded in a phased manner in transfer in the State health services. In the first phase counselling sessions were held for postings in the administrative and senior positions like Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) and Chief Medical Officers (CMO).
In the second phase transfers of doctors posted for many years in hospitals located in plain areas were done. These transfers indicate the state government’s desire to strengthen the district hospitals. The Government is of the view that the burden in the hospitals of Dehradun and Haridwar would be reduced by providing doctors in the district hospitals of mountainous areas.
