The state health department is undertaking fortnight long programme on population control measures but data of the health department reveal that it has failed miserably in implementing family planning measures. In male sterilisation the department did only 681 cases in the year 2016-17 while in the year 2014-15 the corresponding figure was 979. In female sterilisation also the number of cases in last year was 16358 which again are lower as compared to the year 2014-15 when 17102 female sterilisations were done. In the year 2014-15, 31054 oral pill cycles were distributed which again were higher than 30915 last year. The Copper T insertion too declined in the state as there were 98128 cases were reported in the year 2014-15 while last year the department was able to complete only 72688 cases. The number of condom users in the state is also decreasing as per the department data. A decline in all these parameters is very disturbing considering the fact that crores of rupees are spent every year by the government on population control measures.
