Headless body: Doon cops still clueless

Published on:

Dehradun Police are still clueless about the culprits and the motive behind the murder of a 25-year-old woman whose headless and naked body was discovered near army family residences about a kilometre from Raj Bhawan under Cantt Police Station on Wednesday.

Dehradun Circle Officer (Civil) Harish Chandra Sati, Homicide squad inspector Dinesh Chandra Baunthiyal and Cantt Police Station inspector VK Jhetha inspected the site where the body was found. They have not got any clue in collection with this case. Army personnel were witnessed checking all the vehicles passing through the said area. An Army man who was on duty in the area said, "I have heard about police finding a body but I do not know much about this."

Police are facing difficulties in identifying the body as there were no clothes on her body. Police had recovered a bangle, few inches of thread and a sack from the spot. The newly formed homicide squad which was established recently to investigate murder and heinous crime cases has not got leads in the case. As the news spread, many people from the neighbourhood areas have expressed fear after this incident.

They question the level of security considering that a naked, headless body was thrown in a VVIP area near the Raj Bhawan and CM's residence where army and police are said to be vigilant day and night. In two recent murder cases in Patelnagar and Dalanwala areas, culprits escaped easily after committing crimes and police are yet to get clues.

SP City Jagdish Chandra said, "Different angles are being investigated to crack the case. locals and those frequenting the area are being questioned. Army officers are also told to check their personnel who have gone on leave. Domestic helpers working in the area should also be verified. Police are making all efforts to establish the identity of the woman," he said.

He further said that police are also taking help of the national crime record bureau and the State crime record bureau in establishing the woman's identity. Several police teams have been formed and deployed at various places including Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Bijnor, Saharanpur, Haridwar and other places to know whether a report was lodged about a woman missing.

Several methods are being applied with the hope of solving the case soon, he added. Cantt Police Station in-charge VK Jetha said that Police are waiting for post-mortem report to find out time of death and this report is expected to be released by Saturday evening. Dehradun homicide squad in-charge Baunthiyal said that though this case has not been handed over to the squad, which is helping the police station. According to him, police did not find any scratches on the body.

The culprit might have known this area very well. The body, which had not decomposed seems to be of a fair complexioned woman aged around 25 years. He further said that police are awaiting the postmortem report which would also reveal whether the woman was pregnant, he added.
