The Uttarakhand High Court will decide the fate of students who wish to secure admission in various bachelor and post graduation degree courses in DAV (PG) College.

Admission process in the DAV (PG) College could not begin because leaders of various students groups- NSUI, ABVP, Aryan Group and others protested against cap on students’ enrolment in various bachelor degree courses and closed the college gate forcibly on Tuesday. However, college principal Devendra Bhasin said that as High Court and HNB Garhwal Central University have directed the colleges to enroll students on sanctioned seats; so again High Court will decide when admission process for first year students of bachelor and post graduation degrees will begin in the college. “Regarding the admissions, we have not received any letter from state government," he added.

Meanwhile, hoping that the admission process in the DAV (PG) College had begun with sale of admission prospectus on Tuesday, large number of students aspiring to secure admission in various degree courses reached the college but turned back empty handed because student leaders forcibly closed the admission counter and later the college gate in support of their demand for improving infrastructure in the college.

With the declaration of state government that degree colleges have been directed to follow last year’s admission pattern on Monday evening, student leaders were witnessed celebrating. NSUI leaders and supporters rallied within the campus and outside showing their strength before students’ union election to be held in the future.  ABVP leaders and supporters also rallied in the campus. Earlier, the students’ protest ended in the campus after college principal Bhasin reached the protest site and assured redressal of their grievances without delay.

Students’ union president Sidharth Rana who was unaware of the college principal’s stand, said that they would continue protesting in the college unless college management improves infrastructure. According to him, the college principal  had told him that he would meet the college management secretary and students’ concern will be addressed within a week.

Bhasin said that the admission process in first year students of bachelor and post graduate degree will start after High Court’s order. The admission process for second and third year will begin from Wednesday. It should be mentioned here that in compliance with the High Court’s order, instructions have been given by the state government and vice chancellor of HNB Garhwal Central University that the enrollment of students in various degree courses in the college should not be exceeded from its sanctioned seat.
