Taking stern note of its earlier orders not being executed, the High Court has directed the Transport Secretary and Transport Commissioner to present themselves in court on July 6. The single bench of Justice Rajiv Sharma expressed dissatisfaction stating that had the Transport Department been alert, such a major mishap would probably not have occurred. According to case details, Arun Kumar submitted an application in the HC informing that in a case the court had earlier directed the officials concerned to ensure observance of the sections 66, 86 and 88 of the Motor Vehicles Act to prevent overloading and ensure safety of vehicle users. The court had also directed all senior superintendents of police to ensure prevention of overloading.
