Expressing dissatisfaction in the case of students being molested by the music teacher at the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities (NIEPVD) last year, the high court of Uttarakhand has directed the Central Government and the institute to submit affidavits in the court.
Hearing on the case on Tuesday, the high court also expressed its displeasure at the former vice principal of the institute Anusuya Sharma not submitting the report in court. Taking cognisnace of members of the general public entering the mosque inside the institute campus, the court questioned the impact this has on the security of the students. The government and the institute have been directed to submit their reply on this aspect.
It will be recalled that in the past, the high court division bench had taken cognisnace of a letter sent by the parent of a student in the case of molestation of students by a faculty member. The court had then directed the government to immediately suspened the accused music teacher and to register an FIR. The court had also directed that a permanent principal be appointed in the institute within seven days in addition to facilitating CCTV and a generator for lights in the campus of the institute. The court had also directed the Dehradun senior superintendent of police to deploy to police women on campus.
