HC rejects petition challenging Govt procedure of filling women SI posts

The High Court of Uttarakhand has rejected the petition challenging the Government order for filling posts of women sub inspectors through direct appointment. In the past, a single bench of the court had issued order for filling 50 per cent of the posts through promotion.

It is pertinent to mention here that according to the case details, during the previous year the State police headquarters had released an advertisement for direct recruitment to 142 posts. Woman constable Roshni Bhandari had filed a petition seeking that 50 per cent of these posts be filled by promotion. The single bench of the high court had accepted this petition directing that 50 per cent of the posts be filled through promotion. Following this decision of the high court’s single bench, candidate Kalpana Sharma appealed against the decision of the single bench. In her appeal Sharma had requested that the direct appointments should be made to fill the posts of women sub inspectors.

Hearing on the case, the division bench of the high court comprising chief justice KM Joseph and justice VK Bist rejected the earlier petition of Roshni Bhandari challenging direct recruitment to the said posts.
