In what comes as yet another jolt to the State Government, the High Court of Uttarakhand has quashed the State’s notification regarding inclusion of 60 villages in the area under the purview of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD).

The divison bench of acting chief justice Rajiv Sharma and justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari quashed the notification while hearing on a public interest litigation here on Wednesday.

Dehradun resident Kulvinder Singh Bora had filed the PIl in the high court regarding the notification issued by the state government in October 2017 regarding expansion of the MCD area.

Challenging the government notification, the petitioner had stated that most of the villages brought under the purview of the MCD border forest areas.

Bringing such villages under the MCD’s purview would increase the potential for encroachment and damage to the environment.

The petitioner had also stated that the government had itself not followed the regulations before issuing the notification.

After hearing the parties in the petition, the high court quashed the government notification regarding inclusion of 60 villages in the MCD area.
